The Barbados Council for the Disabled (BCD) is an umbrella body advocating on behalf of its members established in 1976.
The Barbados Council for the Disabled helps persons (residents and visitors) with various disabilities from all walks of life.
We provide accessible transportation, braille translation, beach wheelchairs, sign language interpreters, property assessments, and much more, with the aim of creating a barrier free environment.
At present, there are 17 organisations and four associates affiliated to the Council. These organisations cover a wide cross-section of persons, both disabled and non-disabled.
One organisation, such as the Albert Cecil Graham Development Centre (formerly the Children's Development Centre), represents individuals from birth to 18 years old. Other entities represent adults with disabilities of all ages and people working on behalf of persons with disabilities. The membership therefore encompasses hundreds of persons.
Over the years, the BCD has conducted several successful campaigns and has significantly improved the quality of life for persons with disabilities on the island.
We remain committed to our stated mission, "to effect change and champion the rights of all persons with disabilities, ensuring their full and effective integration into society."
