People's Cathedral was started in 1960 when Pastor Holmes and Rosie experienced the Pentecostal movement for the first time. They enjoyed it so much that they invited the missionary to hold meetings in their home.
In 1961, Pastor Holmes received the baptism of the Holy Spirit at Queens Park Steel Shed where evangelist Paul Olson was having meetings. It was there that Pastor Holmes received a vision from God showing him the masses of people he had called him to minister.
Pastor Holmes and Rosie fully committed their lives to Christ and continued holding house meetings. In 1963, Pastor Holmes left his job and dedicated his life to full-time ministry.
The house meetings moved to the city where Pastor Holmes rented the Christian Mission Church in Tudor Street, Bridgetown. He renamed it the Evangelist Centre and the assembly remained there until the construction and completion of the new church between 1964 and 1965 on Bishops Court Hill.
People's Cathedral was specifically established to create a well-mannered Christian environment for the total development of mind, body and spirit.
People's Cathedral is also involved in supporting local pastors and establishing orphanages and schools in several Caribbean islands.
