Crystal Auto Rental was founded in 1989 by Jay Crofton, a native of Conroe, Texas. During the mid 70’s while on numerous camping trips through Mexico and Central America Jay discovered the jewel of Belize and fell in love with this island type paradise country and as a bonus they also spoke his language.

On his travel to Belize during the oil bust in the U.S. Jay flew down instead of driving as he had normally done and had one of the worst experiences ever trying to rent a car. Jay knew he could improve the local rental experience and within 4 months had a caravan of 10 vehicles coming to Belize and Crystal Auto Rental was born.

Over 26 years, Crystal has grown from 10 vehicles into a fleet of over 250 new and used vehicles, which is more than all our competitors combined. Our main office is situated in Belize City and we also operate out of the Philip Goldson International Airport. Crystal is one the few rental companies to offer services to the Mayan ruins of Tikal in Guatemala. Our growth and success has been attributed to our ‘value for dollar’ business model coupled with our high standards of customer service which has been reflected in our repeat rentals and numerous customer referrals.

Our knowledgeable staff is always available for advice and to answer any questions you may have to make your trip to Belize more enjoyable. We will gladly assist you on any questions concerning Airlines, Buses, Boats, Taxi cabs, Tours, Travel Agents, Churches, Diving, Insurance, Internet Services, Museums, Real Estate, Realtors, Guest Houses, Hotels and Accommodation, Vehicle Sales or any other information regarding travel in or moving to Belize.

You are about to take a journey like none you’ve ever encountered. Mark my words, Belize is no ordinary place! You’ve heard the expression, “a picture’s worth a thousa nd words.” On this journey, it will take a thousand pictures to say one word – Belize.

Belize is a voyage of pictures and sensations. It’s an experience oozing with excitement, adventure and memories. Pack lightly, bring your camera. You’re about to take a trip through time.

This is where jaguars roam the wild, colorful birds fly freely and denizens of the deep glide through pristine waters. And the nights, they’re ethereal. A myriad of stars forms a heavenly canopy of light so dense it’s third dimensional. Stargazers welcome.

Visitors from all over the world find it wonderful, magical and beautiful – in a very natural way. It’s where the old world of Maya, Garifuna, Creole and Mestizo meets the new. It’s simple, it’s splendid.

Geographically this country is small in size (8,866 square miles), but, it’s gigantic in attractions and diversity. The mainland and coastal cayes are remarkable wonders. The topography changes rapidly as do compass points. Travelers see estuaries, rivers, jungle, mountains, coral reefs, expansive underground caves, glorious waterfalls and an incredible collection of wildlife.

Every year more and more visitors are discovering Belize. Most come to dive, fish, enjoy the wildlife and explore ancient ruins. Some come to relax. Others come for the education.

Today the population of over 330,000 people is a blend of Creole, Maya, Mestizo, Garifuna, and Mennonite. Added to this mix is a sprinkling of international wayfaring strangers who wander in and never leave. Resulting is a people of storybook character with an uncommon tolerance for one another.

If the country is famous for anything, it would be diving along its outer cayes and ecotourism inland. Belize is home of the longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere. Diving is unquestionably spectacular. The cayes along the reef are picture perfect – white sandy beaches and coconut palms.

The interior of the mainland is no less known and equally as amazing. In the north, the land is mostly flat. The southern regions encompass the rugged Maya Mountains. Rivers cut through the land, snaking with the gentle flow of raw nature.

The rivers are home to manatees, crocodiles and trophy-size fish. Riverbanks are alive with wildlife. Thundering calls of howler monkeys warn intruders. Trees dance with colors of parrots and toucans. Giant tapirs water at the river’s edge. Elusive jaguars mark the soft ground with huge paw prints. The inland is ecotourism at its best. It’s a kaleidoscope of natural wonders, all living in harmony.

With all its charm and innocence, excitement and diversity, Belize is becoming a preferred destination for travelers seeking something new, something good. The people of Belize are well aware of what they have, and they’re happy to share, but they’re careful to preserve. And this is good, because it keeps Earth as Earth should be. Let the journey begin, take your thousand pictures.
