St. Joseph's Teachers' College is a Roman Catholic teacher training college in Kingston, Jamaica. It was founded in 1897 by the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany a religious orde r for women in the Roman Catholic Church in Jamaica.

To all our readers, St. Joseph’s Teachers’ College (SJTC) welcomes you to our new website. It is our hope that you will use this medium to learn more about our college and that it will provide you with another career choice with a difference. St. Joseph’s Teachers’ College is a Catholic institution that has been in existence for over 116 years. Its early beginnings are grounded in Christian values based on Franciscan tradition through the life and work of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany. This background forms the ethos of the college to this day

The college is firmly established and through its vision, mission, and core values it will continue to be unwavering despite much public discussion about teacher quality and oversupply of teachers in the Jamaican workforce. SJTC remains encouraged even when we are experiencing low intake of students for this academic year. This challenge is not unique to SJTC because another teacher-training institutions are experiencing a similar dilemma while at the same time, other institutions of learning are having a low student intake for this year because of serious financial challenges.

At SJTC, we are of the view that through challenges of this nature and otherwise, we will continue to be resilient with strong hope. Since our founding in 1897, we have weathered the “storms”. Now, it is safe to say that standing on the threshold and in moving forward, we will become even stronger, more relevant, and more effective in these times when education institutions are constantly being called upon to provide quality education. Therefore, in my view, quality education must be strongly aligned with quality teachers along with the values that tightly underpin such status.

Each year, SJTC con tinues to increase and enhance the teaching profession by adding some of Jamaica’s best professionals. In order to achieve such a task, SJTC reviews and renews itself and its deliverables so that we remain current and relevant in responding to the needs of our society and even the needs beyond our shores. When prospective teachers come to SJTC, they come because of what they read about the college, what their parents, relatives, friends, and alumni say about the college, all of which provide clear evidence that the good news is out there among the people. SJTC stands tall among the best

Ananda Marga Kinder-Prep School was started in August 1979 as a Kindergarten at 5 Fairway Avenue with 4 children. The school enjoyed moderate growth at its site of birth until 1988 when a new location at 12 Cerieffe Road was founded and the new pledge and dedication were put in place to establish a stronger kindergarten to meet the new challenges of this era. Ananda Marga literally means “The Path of Bliss”- the way that leads both the individual and society onto its highest goal.

Education for all

Ananda Marga believes that education is one of the five basic necessities in life. Therefore, all individuals should be given the opportunity to learn in an open-minded, ethical and progressive environment, regardless of economic status, religion, class, race or gender. Every school needs a guiding principle for its students, in the same way that every child needs a loving parent. At Ananda Marga Kinder-Prep this principle is based on the philosophy of Neo-Humanisim, put simply Neo-Humanisim is the extension of the love we naturally feel toward other human beings to include animals, plants and all other forms of existence throughout each and every school day we work to develop the highest qualities of humanity namely concern for others, compassionate love for all creation, spirit of service, thirst for knowledge and awareness/acceptance of diversity. We believe that Neo-Humanistic education is most effective when it begins at a very young age in primary and pre-school years because this is the time when the child develops his/her indelible impressions of the world.

Motto

“Discipline is First, Discipline is Second and Discipline is Last” And “Service to Humanity is Service to God”.

Fundaciones started in 2008 as an opportunity for children of all ages to learn Spanish in an after school setting. In July 2009, Fundaciones opened the headquarters and first location in Kingston called Fundaciones @ El Centro and in January 2013 Fundacioned opened it’s centre in Western Jamaica called Fundaciones Montego Bay.

Fundaciones is Spanish for ‘foundations’ and describes perfectly what students learn at our centres. With a trained team, who encourages critical thinking and learning in non-traditional ways our locations become your child’s home away from home. The supportive family atmosphere encourages students to develop the skills needed in today’s ever changing global village.

It is our mission to provide each student a safe, supportive environment that promotes critical thinking motivation and excellence in learning. Our team works with all stakeholders to assist students in developing skills to become independent learners who will contribute responsibly in the global community.

Our methodology sets us apart. We teach the fundamentals using music, movement, rhymes, chants, art and craft. We also sensitise children to the differences that exist in today’s global village by making them more socially receptive and tolerant citizens.
