Biomedical Caledonia Medical Laboratory Limited is a private medical laboratory with a network of forty-one (41) collection centres island wide and has been providing comprehe nsive laboratory services since 1968.

The laboratory utilises state of the art methods and cutting edge technology in order to provide our clients with the best service which includes a Laboratory Information System (LIS) for data management.

In order to assure the quality of test results and satisfy our customers, the Biomedical Caledonia Medical Laboratory has established, implemented and will continuously maintain a quality system appropriate to the scope of our activities. The laboratory has put in place documented policies, systems, programmes, procedures and instructions for the maintenance of the quality system. The system’s documentation is implemented by the appropriate authorities and made available to all personnel in an easily understandable format.

The University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech) dates its beginning from 1958, originally as the Jamaica Institute of Technology. In 1959 the name of the institution was changed to the College of Arts, Science and Technology and it became incorporated in the College of Arts, Science and Technology (CAST) Scheme of 1959. This was validated by an Act of Parliament in 1964. In 1986, the CAST Scheme was revised in order to make the College a degree-granting institution, and the College became legally empowered to conduct its affairs under a governing Council and Academic Board.

The institution was formally accorded University status on September 1, 1995 as the University of Technology, Jamaica. The University of Technology, Jamaica Act 27 - 1999, which makes permanent provisions for the establishment of the University of Technology, Jamaica, was approved by Parliament on June 8, 1999 and signed into law by the Governor General on June 29, 1999.

UTECH has academic offerings, wit h emphasis on flexibility of approach, work-based learning and professional linkages. The Flexibility in UTECH academic offerings is reflected in the various modes of programme delivery, which include full-time and part-time and cooperative work based programmes.

In addition, several programmes are franchised in a number of Community Colleges and most programmes are linked to national and international professional organisations. UTECH has brought hope and a sense of pride to the citizens of Western Jamaica with the advent of the UTECH Western Campus, which has opened its doors at the Trelawny Multipurpose stadium.

On Wednesday, September 7, 2011, UTECH hosted an Opening Ceremony and Information Session at the stadium, which was attended by a large gathering of members of government, civic leaders, educators, students and citizens who came to witness the historic event.

Dr. Channer developed a keen intere st for otolaryngology (ENT) during his medical degree pursuit at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Jamaica. He also completed his ENT residency at UWI as well as several institutions in the United Kingdom and was the top performer across all surgical disciplines.

As an ENT consultant, he diagnoses and manages diseases of the ear, nose and throat. These include ear infections, hoarseness, goiters (thyroid swellings), tonsil and adenoids, wax impaction, foreign bodies, snoring and sinusitis.

Dr. Channer further super-specialized in otology, neurotology and skull base surgery at the University of Miami to become the only superspecialist in the english-speaking Caribbean. Neurotology is a medical superspecialty within the field of otolaryngology that focuses on pathologies involving the ear, organ and nerve of hearing and balance and their courses to the brainstem. These include hearing loss, dizziness (vertigo), BPPV, glomus tumours, otosclerosis and acoustic neuroma (vestibular schwannoma).

He is currently the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of Saint Andrew North Eastern and the Oppositi on Spokesman on Justice. Chuck previously served as the Minister of Justice from 2011 to 2012 and as the Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011. Biomedical Caledonia Medical Laboratory Limited is a private medical laboratory with a network of forty-one (41) collection centres island wide and has been providing comprehe nsive laboratory services since 1968.

The laboratory participates in external proficiency testing with the Caribbean Epidemiology Centre (CAREC), the Medical Laboratory Evaluation (MLE) programme provided by the American College of Physicians, Randox International Quality Assessment Scheme (RIQAS) and the Digital Proficiency Testing programme.

The laboratory was one of the selected Testing Laboratories to participate in the pilot Accreditation Programme that was orchestrated by the Government of Jamaica, Swedish Accreditation Body (SWEDAC), and the Caribbean Epidemiology Centre. Our laboratory participated in a mock accreditation exercise in 2006, where we demonstrated our technical competence in providing quality and efficient services based on the International Standard ISO15189 requirements.
On May 28, 2013, the Laboratory was awarded Accreditation Status from the Jamaica National Agency for Accreditation (JANAAC) having met the required International Standard of ISO15189 that governs medical laboratories.

The laboratory utilises state of the art methods and cutting edge technology in order to provide our clients with the best service which includes a Laboratory Information System (LIS) for data management.

In order to assure the quality of test results and satisfy our customers, the Biomedical Caledonia Medical Laboratory has established, implemented and will continuously maintain a quality system appropriate to the scope of our activities. The laboratory has put in place documented policies, systems, programmes, procedures and instructions for the maintenance of the quality system. The system’s documentation is implemented by the appropriate authorities and made available to all personnel in an easily understandable format.
