At the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF), we are investing in community development. The Jamaica
Social Investment Fund mobilises resources and channels these to community-based socioeconomic,
infrastructure, and social services projects.
Through a national partnership with central and local government, communities and private and public
organisations, the Jamaica Social Investment Fund addresses the immediate demands of communities.
And we aim to do so in a quick, efficient, and effective manner that is transparent and nonpartisan. In
fulfilling our mandate, we facilitate the empowerment of communities and assist in building national
capacity to implement community-based programmes aimed at social development effectively.
Moreover, we continue to make progress in improving the lives of the underserved populations
throughout Jamaica. We are playing our part in moving the country a step closer to achieving the
milestones set out in the Vision 2030 development plan.
While in the early days, we had a strong focus on addressing basic community needs, our work has
evolved. We are now directing our resources towards making investments that spur economic growth
and develop the youth workforce. We also work to stimulate increased earnings at the micro, small and
medium enterprise levels. Since our inception in 1996, our efforts have resulted in approximately 1.4
million Jamaicans have benefited from the completion and delivery of over 1, 687 sub-projects.
These projects span a variety of areas including public access and rural feeder roads, communal
markets, multipurpose community facilities, community health centres, schools, alternative livelihood,
and vocational skills training.
Our projects have also facilitated training in market awareness, entrepreneurial skills, job readiness,
personal development, job preparation and literacy. Our project beneficiaries also access training in
personal money management, conflict resolution, anger management, parenting adolescent and adult
life skills, health and hygienic behavioural practices.
Additionally, beneficiaries also have access to income-earning agricultural and community tourism
enterprises. These successes have translated into improved living standards and access to social and
economic services, setting the foundation for a stronger nation.
