43 results for Inland Revenue in Jamaica

It is difficult to pinpoint an actual start date for the collection of customs duties in Jamaica. However, in 1867, a detailed list of duties on imports and exports was establ ished. In 1877, a law was enacted which made provision for:

The establishment of wharves, ports and warehouses The appointment of customs officers The payment of drawbacks, bonds and securities The registration of ships and airplanes Modes of entry required for the importer and or exporter The importation and warehousing of goods The Collector General's Department is the first revenue agency to be historically documented. It was appointed in 1868, with the primary responsibility of collecting revenue on all imports with the exception of the Post Master General. It was also responsible for the collection of taxes on income and property, licensing fees and other business related taxes. In 1985, the Jamaican Government established the Inland Revenue Department to promote greater accountability and to augment r evenue collection. The Department was divided into the Customs and Excise Department and the Inland Revenue Department. In October 1991, the Jamaican Government, in conjunction with the World Bank, reorganized the revenue service along functional lines. One element of the reorganization was the further sub-division of the Customs and Excise Department in the Jamaica Customs Department and General Consumption Tax (GCT) Department.

Subsequently, the Jamaica Customs Department performed its duties under the banner of the Tax Administration Directorate. At that time the Directorate included five departments:

Inland Revenue Department (IRD), Taxpayers Audit and Assessment Department (TAAD), Taxpayer Appeals Department (TAD), Tax Administration Services Department (TASD) and the Jamaica Customs Department.

On March 28, 2013, the Jamaica Customs Department was designated the status of Executive Agency to fully perform as such effective April 2, 2013 (see designation docum ent below). The Agency is currently going through a number of organizational changes in accordance with its proposed long term Modernization Plan.

Our focused and integrated approach makes service delivery to our clients’ one that is not only of world class standard but, also an experience of efficiency and effectiveness delivered at an internationally competitive cost.

Our experienced team of professionals understands that well executed marketing programmes drive up both revenue and profits. Our business mantra of THINK. CREATE. INTEGRATE is at the heart of our operations as we work closely with our clients to ensure that their bu siness objectives are aligned with their marketing goals and marketing strategies. With this strategic alignment we have assisted our clients with the acceleration of their business performance to generate practical results, as we continue to build the successful international brands from local and regional organisations.

Create

The path you create for yourself comes from what you think. Any business that ever existed started with a solitary thought. As it is with thinking about a product or service you want to offer, so it is with the way you promote it. No marketing strategy can ever be successful without first thinking about your (potential) consumers, what their interests are and how you can get their attention and appeal to them.

Think

So you’ve done the required Thinking about your new marketing strategy and it’s time to create a plan of action. At this stage, you are probably weighed down with information brainstormed and you may not know how to make use of it all. Some never get passed this stage because they are overwhelmed and instantly begin to think ‘this is too hard’.

Integrate

Are you taking an INTEGRATED approach to promoting your brand? The first thing you need to do is to establish a destination. If you don’t know where you are going, how will you ever get there? Next, you communicate the destination to everyone, tell them clearly what they should be brought along and provide them with a copy of the road map.
