5 Ways Artists can Improve their Brand Awareness

The Oxford Dictionary defines an artist as, “a person who creates art; paintings, drawings, sculptor, filmmaker, musician, actor or dancer.” One of Jamaica’s claim to fame is our artists. Let’s face it, many Jamaicans can create art, but a lot of artists have a challenge marketing themselves online. Social media is a great platform to display your art.

Your art should not be for free. Visit www.yellomg to speak to an advertising consultant and see how we can help get your art out there.

Here are five tips that artists can improve their brand awareness.

  1. Understand your Audience

Once you determine your style, concept or message, the next step is to get in tune with your audience. Understanding the audience drawn to your network will help you determine what kind of art to make and publicize. This is call ‘social listening’ and it entails reading the comments and paying attention engagement, such as likes, comments, re-tweets and shares.

  1. Observe the Demographic

In taking social listening a step further, filtering through your supporters by age group and gender can help you target who and what kind of art to make to appeal to them. If you happen to run a completion, then this can help you determine your ‘super fans’ or ‘super users.’

  1. Get Listed and Published

Yello has a free Creative Listing available on our mobile app. Click here for more information. Look to see which publications (both online and on newsstands) that can feature your art. Look at non-traditional spaces like blogs, vlogs, podcasts where your art might be a good fit. There are online resources that your work can get listed for free or a nominal fee. Technorati is a great resource for filtering blogs and the content they publish.

  1. Offer a Referral Program

Any marketer worth their salt knows that word of mouth is the best form of advertising. An example of a good referral program is Dropbox, where they offered 16G of storage space when existing customers referred a friend. If you take a page from Dropbox’s book, this will generate tons of word of mouth that will generate sign ups and new followers.

  1. Social Media Contest

Run a social media contest that your fans can sink their teeth into. Social media contests build a community and a strong following. You want of offer a prize that incentivises people to enter and join your platform. Take it a step further and purchase a Facebook or Instagram to extend your reach. You can determine your own budget and length of the contest on either platform
