Ascension Day 2017

Ascension Day is the 40th Day of Easter and occurs 39 days after Easter Sunday. The day will always fall on a Thursday and is therefore also known as Ascension Thursday. It is a Christian holiday that commemorates Jesus Christ’s ascension into heaven, according to Christian belief.

This year the day will fall on Thursday 25th May and is a public Holiday in Aruba, Bonaire and the Dutch colonies.

Locals and natives of Aruba and Bonaire can opt to take the opportunity to travel and enjoy a long weekend, or stay on island and simply relax, and head to the beach for their day off. Other than hitting the beach, natives or residents may take the time to enjoy the natural beauty of their island home.  Water activities include fishing, kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving, windsurfing and kite surfing. Or for the land adventurers, go mountain biking or take an off-road tour, or simply opt to play golf, go bowling, or play tennis.

It is not uncommon to see visitors traveling to Aruba and Bonaire around this time, or crowded beaches.
