Barbados Food and Rum Festival 2017

The eighth edition of the Barbados Food and Rum Festival will be held from 16-19 November and is set to be a feast for the eyes and ears as well as the taste buds.

The Festival begins on Thursday with the free-to-attend ‘Oistins Bay Gardens Cook Off.’ At this event, top local chefs will prepare fresh, grilled treats under the stars at the popular tourist spot which is well-known for its Friday night Fish Fry’s, welcoming party atmosphere and laid back style.

On Friday 17th November, ‘The Signature Rum Event’ will take place at the Concorde Experience near the Grantley Adams International Airport in Christ Church. This all-inclusive evening will give patrons a chance to sample handcrafted rum cocktails while local award-winning chefs prepare unique hors d’oeuvres. It promises to showcase Barbados’ rich history of producing the best quality rum while taking attendees on an unforgettable culinary journey.

On Saturday 18th November the venues will switch to the parishes of St Philip and St James. At 3pm until 7pm the thrilling sport of polo will be combined with an array of world-class cocktails and canapés at Holders Polo Club.

In the evening, Canadian chef Chris De Le Rosa will host a ‘gourmet safari’ fine-dining event at the prestigious Crane Hotel on the east coast of the island, and around the same time chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten will host a similar food and drink adventure at the famous Cliff Restaurant.

On Sunday there will be a lunchtime feast at Tides restaurant featuring a specially prepared menu by Britain’s Tom Aikens, an English Michelin star winning head chef, who describes food as “his life and first true love”.

The Festival will then head to the beach for the closing night on Sunday evening with the ‘feet in the sand beach party’ at Needham’s Point, Hilton Barbados. Guests will be treated to live performances and sumptuous morsels from a wide variety of food tasting stations on one of the most pristine beaches in Barbados.

The Barbados Food and Rum Festival is always popular and this year is likely to be no exception, so be sure to grab your tickets early – your stomach will thank you for it.
