Beat the frizz!

'frizzy hair'

Embrace your hair and make it the best it can be by following these four tips to build your perfect hair routine.

  1. Know your porosity

This is how well your hair absorbs and retains moisture. Knowing your hair porosity will help you to choose the right products, techniques and know what to avoid to keep your tresses healthy. To find out your hair porosity, take a strand of freshly washed hair and place it on the surface of a bowl of water. If it sinks quickly it’s high porosity, if it takes forever to sink, you know it’s low porosity!

  1. Say good-bye to sulfates

The sulfates in many shampoos, such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate dry out your hair and curly/kinky hair is typically already quite dry. Dryness leads to tangles, frizziness and split ends which no one wants. Look for sulfate-free shampoos or try co-washes instead.

  1. Skip the silicone

Most silicones in hair products are non-water soluble, leading to build-up and lifeless kinks/curls; you’ll need a sulfate shampoo to remove them, and you should be avoiding those! There are ‘good’ silicones namely Stearoxy Dimethicone, Behenoxy Dimethicone that you don’t need to run from.

  1. Love it

You wish you had thicker hair, longer hair, shinier hair, you wish it looked just like the immaculate mane you saw on someone at the supermarket yesterday. Stop trying to beat your hair into submission or transform it into something else, it’s important that you learn to love the hair you have and work with it, not against it.
