Lynn M Bodden is an attorney and the managing partner of Bodden and Bodden Attorneys at Law. In her spare time, Lynn enjoys travelling, meeting new people, entertaining and giving back to the community.  She serves on several statutory Boards and she is a member of the Miss Cayman Islands Committee and the local charity Lean on Me.

Distraught by the recent devastation caused by hurricanes Irma and Maria, Lynn reached out to fellow members of Lean on Me to plan the upcoming fundraiser Caribbean Strong. Proceeds from the event will go to islands most affected by hurricanes Irma and Maria, in addition 10% of proceeds will also be donated to families in need in the Cayman Islands.

Lynn shares details of this upcoming benefit with us.

Tell us about the fundraiser: Caribbean Strong.
I was absolutely devastated when I saw the damage done to the islands in the Eastern Caribbean, especially Dominica because I know their sole economy is sugar, bananas and coconuts and they have lost every tree and crop. I have some good friends who have lost their farms. We went through the same in Hurricane Ivan so we know what it’s like and it feels only right to give back.

What is Lean on Me?
Lean on Me is a local charity founded by Derri Dacres Lee over a decade ago, to help families in need in the Cayman Islands. The first fundraiser was held in 2004 to raise money for Nina Orrett-Ebanks after she was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Lean on Me organises annual Christmas food drives and delivers groceries to struggling families in Cayman.

What are your goals for the fundraiser?
We hope to raise as much money as possible (at least US$15,000) to send food and supplies to the Islands most in need.

What inspired you to get involved?
Derri has been asking me to come on board for years! So, a few years ago, I joined Lean on Me to assist with their local food drive at Christmas.

How many people are you hoping to come?
We are hoping between 300 and 400 people will attend.

Where can people learn more information about the event?
Lean on Me has a Facebook page highlighting information, and a Facebook event.
