Design 101: Remodelling a Bathroom on a Budget

Remodelling a bathroom can quickly become distressingly expensive. Rather than emptying your wallet on a costly overhaul, there are a few simple ways to update the look of your bathroom.

Here are some tips to make your bathroom beautiful without killing your wallet.

Update the fixtures

Little details make a big impact. You can completely refresh the look of your bathroom by updating fixtures such as faucets, towel racks and drawer pulls. These items may seem small but you might be surprised at how much of a difference updating them can make.

If there are cosmetic issues with your bathtub or shower such as a yellowed surface or nicks and cracks, you can refinish the surfaces rather than buying a new shower or tub.

Go pre-fab

If you’ve decided that your shower is beyond saving, then consider getting a pre-fabricated shower rather than hiring someone to build a unit from scratch.

Change the vanity

One of the quickest and easiest ways to upgrade the look of your bathroom is to change the vanity. When choosing a new vanity think about how you can use it to increase storage in the bathroom.

Update your lights

Lighting can really change the way space looks and feels. The right lights can change a cold, uninviting space into a relaxing retreat. Changing the lights is a great way of transforming a room.

When the grout in the bathroom gets grimy, it gets unsightly and can really drag the look of your bathroom down. By simply cleaning the grout and adding straight, clean lines of caulk around the tub and sink, you can add sparkle for a mere few dollars. You might be surprised at what a difference this can make.

Keep plumbing where it is

Keep costs down by installing a new sink, tub, or toilet in the same location as the old one.
