In the Wardrobe: Jodine Jackson, Paragon Model Management
Jodine Jackson is a multi-faceted woman. This former model currently works as the Executive Assistant at the Permanent Mission of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to the United Nations in New York. Though Jodine spends quite some time stateside, she is still working in St Vincent and the Grenadines as CEO and Manager at Paragon Model Management SVG. Let’s dive into the wardrobe with this fashion-lover.
Where in SVG are you from?
I’m from Green Hill.
How did Paragon Model Management SVG get started?
Paragon started from a long love of the industry. I have always wanted to have my own agency but was very hesitant. After I graduated from college and was not working, I threw myself into creating the brand.
You also work with the UN. What inspired you to enter the fashion industry? Were you a model yourself?
Working at the Permanent Mission came a long time after my modelling days. Growing up and experiencing the training, actual fashion shows and beautiful models inspired my whole being I think. I’ve modelled since I was five years old. Although I do not model anymore, I think that once the experience is meaningful to you, you will forever be a model.
Do your models work internationally?
Currently, we do not have models working internationally. But we have had models featured in international and regional magazines and platforms.
What was the process of building the agency? Was it difficult to get support moving the business from concept to reality?
The process of building the agency has been difficult and still is. I wanted to create a brand of beautiful and diverse models; this is easier said than done. We have beautiful and diverse models, but staying relevant can be a challenge. I have an amazing team (Quinn Jackson and Zair Martin and partner (Nathifa Bonadie) that is the creative bone behind the agency and formulates original concepts for photoshoots.
How would you describe your personal style?
This to me is a trick question. I think my friends would answer this better than I can. I love fashion so whatever I think works, I make it work. I love tiny tops and high-waisted jeans, so maybe that’s my personal style lol.
What’s your ‘thing’ to wear?
Lol, refer to the previous answer. But I also love a good pair of heels, if I could wear heels to the beach I would.
What has been your proudest career moment so far?
Whenever one of our models excels, no matter in what way, I take that as a proud career moment. My job is to make sure they excel.
Who are your style icons?
My style icons are models! I love seeing models transform a runway look into a street look, they can make anything look good.
When was your favourite style era?
The 1980’s were the reigning decade for high waisted jeans, so the 1980s.
Any style advice you’d be willing to share?
Always show out when you’re showing up!
“Fashion is the armour to survive the reality of everyday life.” Do you agree?
I agree completely! I don’t know what it is, but dressing up can make you feel so much better about life.
Where’s your favourite place to shop when you’re in SVG?
I don’t really shop when I’m in SVG but I do love purchasing from local designers like Payne and SoKa.
