International Youth Day 2018
The world’s youth hold the hopes of the planet in their hands. They’re tomorrow’s dreamers, innovators, and leaders. It’s important to protect and nurture them, as well as tweens and teens in the development of their communities and the world.
International Youth Day is a designated United Nations awareness day celebrating young people, bringing light to their struggles and recognising their contributions. International Youth Day is observed annually on 12 August.
The theme for 2018 is Safe Spaces for Youth. Young people need places where they can feel free to express themselves, to take part in activities and participate in decision-making processes.
International Youth Day 2018 focuses on the need for inclusive civic, public and digital safe spaces for youth. Safe spaces are important for a number of reasons. They allow young people to bring their ideas to the table in civic matters, participate in sports and other activities, and protect the vulnerable from marginalisation or violence.
