Earl Darius Etienne is a well-seasoned artist from Dominica. Here, he reminisces with us about his past, explains his artwork and inspiration and what his country means to him.

Describe Dominica in one word.

What part of the island did you grow in?
I grew up in St. Paul, Massacre.

Where in Dominica do you like to relax with family and friends?
I like to relax by the river.

What is your favourite local restaurant?
My favourite restaurant is the Coal Pot.

What is your favourite local dish?
I just love grilled fish with veggies. It’s a healthy meal.

How would you describe your artwork?
Social realism.

Where is your gallery and how long have you owned it?
My gallery is located in Jimmit and I have had it for fifteen years.

What is your primary inspiration for your artwork?
I am influenced by culture, but also the social and literal environment.
