My Island Style: Sharlene Lindsay
Multi-talented Island Diva Mas carnival costume designer, Sharlene Lindsay, is a stylish lady with a deep love of colour. Sharlene lets us in on her island style and share some style tips.
Where do you shop in Montserrat?
I tend to shop when I travel but for special events and appearances, I go to Cheryl at Kassell Designz and have something custom made.
What are your classic ‘must have’ items of clothing in your closet?
I’m a true island girl at heart. I’ll quickly trade an LBD for a brightly coloured dress any day. I must have swimsuits, tank tops and shorts. Blazers are also a staple.
Is there a particular style of clothing or jewellery that you favour?
Because I like changing up my style so much, I keep most of my pieces simple. That way it’s easy to mix and match or layer according to my mood or style sense that day.
What is your fashion obsession?
I’m not sure that I have one. I love changing up my hair. Does that count?
If I looked in your closet now, what would I see?
Lots of colour! Different clothing styles from rompers to office wear to cocktail dresses.
How would you describe your work attire?
It depends on which hat I’m wearing. It ranges from corporate to smart casual.
How would you describe your evening/’heading out with the girls’ attire?
I usually do fun and flirty.
Do you prefer wearing flats or heels?
Flats please. I tend to save heels for special occasions and the stage.
What is your favourite lipstick? (colour and brand)
It’s a tie between ‘Dem Trini Girls’ by Sacha Cosmetics and ‘Copenhagen’ by NYX.
What perfume do you wear?
I’m juggling Versace Bright Crystal and Gucci Bamboo at the moment.
Where do you get your hair styled?
I do it myself or ask my girl Jamilia to hook me up.
Which celebrity’s style do you most admire?
I love Taraji P. Henson and Yendi Phillips.
What style tips did your mother pass onto you?
When it comes to clothes and shoes, my granny says: “Black goes with everything”. Lol I’m not too sure about that. My mom taught me that not because something’s in fashion means that it’s for you. Know your body and what style suits you.
