Segway Polo in Paradise 2018
Segway polo will take centre stage on the island in May, when the Barbados Cup is held at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus.
The sport is still relatively new but began gaining popularity in 2004 after it was played for the first time in America. It’s a variation of the more established versions of polo played on bikes or horseback, with two teams consisting of five players, each hitting a ball with mallets to try to score a goal.
Segway polo is played around the world but is particularly popular in Germany, the US and the UK. Team Barbados are the current Segway Polo World Champions.
