The Caribbean Centre for Orthopaedic Surgery is an institute that focuses on treating and managing orthopaedic surgeries.

DR. Randolph Carrington

Dr. Carrington did his undergraduate training at the University of the West Indies initially at the Mona Campus, Jamaica and completing the degree at the Cave Hill Campus, Barbados. Internship and early training in the fundamentals of surgery were pursued at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Barbados before venturing off to achieve the Fellowship in General Surgery. These skills served well in providing the foundations for a career in his chosen field.

Dr. Carrington was successful in acquiring the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgery, Edinburgh, which served as his springboard into the specialty of Orthopaedics and Trauma. He embarked upon this in the Wessex region in the United Kingdom (Southampton was the centre of excellence) and having satisfied the examiners of all the colleges was presented with the Intercollegiate Fellowship in Trauma and Orthopedic Surgery 1999.

Professional Career

Dr. Carrington returned from the United Kingdom in 2000 and joined the staff of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital as a senior registrar performing the full repertoire of Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeries. During this time, he served as General Secretary of the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners convened the audit in surgery in general and travelled to the esteemed Hospital for Special Surgery in New York where he held a clinical attachment in spine surgery. Thereafter he helped establish the Barbados Chapter of the Foundation for Complex Orthopaedics and Spine (surgery).

In 2003 Dr. Carrington was promoted to the post of Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth and Bayview Hospitals, a post he has maintained to present, functioning at various times as Head of Department of General Surgery and he was the second head of Department of Orthopaedics. He joined the staff of Premiere Surgical Centre which opened later. His private offices are at the Caribbean Centre for Orthopaedic Surgery, #3, 6th Avenue, Belleville.

Dr. Carrington specialises in joint replacement, sports injuries, adult and paediatric general orthopaedics and fractures, scoliosis, and disorders of bones, joints, muscles, tendons and peripheral nerves.

In his practice the aim is to provide exemplary Orthopaedic surgical care for Barbados and the Caribbean.
