Overview
The BCA has sought to build on the investments in physical infrastructure, operational systems and human resource capacity with the intention of establishing a sustainable framework for the development of sport through cricket. Barbados has enjoyed such a high reputation for the management of cricket events that both the International Cricket Council 50-over and Twenty20 World Cup finals have been staged at Kensington Oval (KO), considered as one of the top stadia in the world. The England Test tour of the Caribbean in April/May 2015, had a real economic impact of $59.8 million USD pulling in 15,660 unique visitors and generated significant media value.
Additionally, domestic cricket has grown to such an extent that there are now 118 teams, representing 80 clubs and schools in the BCA's competitions, where over 1,700 players and officials turn out every weekend in Barbados. How do we create a sustainable environment for the development of cricket for the benefit of the nation? The centrality of sport and business to contemporary Caribbean life makes it necessary for us to discuss a way forward.
