Sustainable Barbados Recycling Centre (SBRC) Inc. was formed in early 2008.
SBRC receives and processes the island's solid waste with the principal objective of diverting waste from the government's sanitary landfill located at Mangrove, St. Thomas.
SBRC accurately measures waste quantities and waste is disposed of in the most environmentally and cost-effective manner.
The immediate benefit to the government and the island is less waste going to the landfill and an extended landfill life.
Long term benefits are numerous, including the reuse of materials which would ultimately be replaced with imports, if no recycling is implemented.
SBRC was created following the successful formation of a contract with the Government of Barbados to have a centralised location for the handling of all the island's waste.
Our waste management contract will last for 20 years and is under a 'build, own, operate and transfer' agreement.
