The Best Beaches in Barbados – Silver Sands, Christ Church

Silver Sands beach is on the southern tip of Barbados and is the ideal location for water sports especially surfing and kiteboarding.

The almost constant trade winds off the coast of the island ensure that the conditions at Silver Sands are consistent but still challenging even for very experienced water sports enthusiasts.

Silver Sands is not that easy to find but it is worth the somewhat rambling drive through back roads, because the beach itself is expansive with white (almost silver), powdery sand. There is plenty of room to sunbathe, relax with a book, and take in any action that might be happening out on the water.

No lifeguard is on duty at Silver Sands. Visitors should note that the pounding surf can be rough, with high waves and strong undercurrents, so you are advised to stay close to the shoreline and not go into the sea on your own.

Surfboards, kiteboards, paddleboards and other water-based equipment can be rented from the nearby ‘De Action Shop’ and the owners also offer lessons.

Toilet facilities are available nearby. There is also a shaded picnic area with benches although there are no food vendors directly on the beach.

A short walk away is a children’s playground area as well as the floodlit Silver Sands sports field where you may be lucky enough to see a local cricket or football match.

Other attractions close to Silver Sands beach include the South Point Lighthouse and Oistins Bay Gardens where there is a fish fry every Friday and Saturday night.
