Walkers Quarry is a project that was started when the McNeel family discovered silica sand at the site of a proposed hotel on the beautiful windswept and sun-drenched Walkers Beach.
As they were surveying the land for the potential feasibility of the hotel, it was discovered that silica sand, essential in mixing concrete, was available in abundance.
For more than 50 years, Walkers Quarry has been the main supplier of silica sand for Barbados while the owners managed to steward and protect one of the largest native beach-side forests on the island.
Nearly every building in Barbados is constructed, in part, from sand taken from Walkers Quarry.
