In 1989, Dr. Thomas Mathew, an Anesthesiologist from Bluefield WV, and Mrs. Mathew visited Belize for a diving vacation. Enchanted by Belize's beauty and the simple way of life, reminiscent of Kerala, India, they decided to establish a Spice Farm and Botanical Garden in South Belize. With guidance from experts like late Mr. Charles in Big Falls, they transformed the Golden Stream area into a thriving Spice Farm. This venture sparked agro-tourism, attracting visitors from Belize and abroad, including schools and universities for educational tours.
To complement the Spice Farm, the Mathews built Tropical Magnolia Resort using teak trees planted on the farm 25 years ago, ensuring sustainability without cutting trees from the rainforest. Each cabana is handcrafted by local Maya artisans, boosting the local economy and preserving traditional skills. The resort offers guests a unique experience, combining a stay in teak-clad cabanas with visits to the Spice Farm and Botanical Gardens. With its enchanting rainforest, roaring rivers, and friendly Maya community, Southern Belize provides a tranquil escape.
Plan your visit to Belize Spice Farm and Botanical Gardens and experience the beauty of Belize, the rich culture of the community, and indulge in the fragrant spices. Visit today for an unforgettable experience.
