The BVI's Top Sportfishing Competition for Anglers Is Here

In the British Virgin Islands, we love being on the water, and who wouldn’t with our beautiful beaches and vibrant marine life? One event that never fails to be thrilling is the annual Scrub Island Invitational Billfish Series.

Hailed as the BVI’s premier sportfishing competition, it takes place in the second and third weeks of September this year. Crews are set to chart the legendary North Drop, one of the foremost locales for blue marlin fishing, in this two-part tournament. The first leg occurs 13 – 17 September. One day overlaps, as the second leg begins on 17 and continues to 21 September.

In addition to three glorious days of fishing, other activities will include award ceremonies, daily weigh-ins, and a series of entertaining activities on land for all to enjoy. There is no time to waste. Anglers, prep your boat and gather your crew as the dazzling and elusive blue marlin, white marlin, and sailfish await.

Here’s a look at the official schedule of events for this year’s edition of the annual tournament.

Leg One

Friday 13 September – Final registration, Captain’s meeting, and kick-off party at Scrub Island Resort & Marina.

Saturday 14 September – Day one of fishing, with the tournament starting at 7:30am. Lines-out and release of video check-in at 5pm.

Sunday 15 September – Day two of fishing, with the tournament starting at 7:30am. Lines-out and release of video check-in at 5pm.

Monday 16 September – Day three of fishing, with the tournament starting at 7:30am. Lines-out and release of video check-in at 5pm.

Tuesday 17 September – Close of leg one with award banquet at Scrub Island Marina & Resort from 7pm.

Leg Two

Tuesday 17 September – Final registration, Captain’s meeting, and kick-off party at Scrub Island Resort & Marina.

Wednesday 18 September – Day one of fishing, with the tournament starting at 7:30am. Lines-out and release of video check-in at 5pm.

Thursday 19 September – Day two of fishing, with the tournament starting at 7:30am. Lines-out and release of video check-in at 5pm.

Friday 20 September – Day three of fishing, with the tournament starting at 7:30am. Lines-out and release of video check-in at 3pm.

Saturday 21 September – Leg two and Gala Awards Brunch at Scrub Island Resort & Marina from 11am.
