DAMON Braces:
Are considered to be the more traditional definition of the term 'braces'. Each square metal bracket is scientifically engineered and 'prescribed' for each specific tooth in the upper and lower dental arches. The brackets are bonded to the teeth and a metal 'arch wire' is attached & runs across the dental arch. The arch wire is replaced (or some say 'tightened') every 6-8 weeks. The wire has 'memory' & wants to remain in a perfect U-Shape. In conjunction with each prescribed tooth bracket it is the wire and the bracket that straightens & aligns any crooked teeth. Collectively, they also bring the teeth together if there are any 'gaps' due to missing or extracted teeth. Depending on how crowded your teeth were, initially, the treatment time for the Damon System of braces averages 12-24 months. The traditional metal brackets can be substituted for the Damon Clear System where the bracket is ceramic instead of metal, but the series of arch wires remains the same. What is it. The Invisalign System is made by taking impressions of your teeth in our office, then utilizing 3-D computer imaging technology to effectively construct a series of Invisalign aligners to straightenyour teeth. Our orthodontist's are extensively trained & board certified to treat patients with the Invisalign System.
Why would I want it. Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment, plus you can brush and floss your teeth as usual. The aligners are also comfortable, with no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. Without wires and brackets, Invisalign patients spend less time in the doctor's office getting adjustments. Invisalign also allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan when you start so you can see how your teeth will look once your treatment is complete.
How does it work. Invisalign patients wear each set of the series of aligners 24 hours per day for about two weeks- aligners are too be removed only to eat, drink, brush and floss. As you replace each set of aligners with the next in the series, your teeth will move little by little, week by week - until they have straightened to their final positions. You will visit our office once every six to eight weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages 9-15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.
