General Information

Since 1947, Ariza Credit Union (formerly Grenada Public Service Credit Union) has provided products and services that improve the quality of life and well-being of our members.

One of Grenada's longest-standing credit unions, we are proud to say that we have quickly become the island's most outstanding credit union. But, our success would not be possible without our members. And, when we go into the various communities and work with our members, it reminds us why we are leaders in Grenada's credit union sector.

We want to uphold the vision to maintain our role as a leader in being member-focused, professional and innovative while collaborating with our members. Our mission is to improve the quality of life of our members with financial solutions tailored to their needs.

Each day we take great strides towards the future, to create a positive financial service environment we like to call the Ariza Experience. As an extension of the Ariza Credit Union brand, we invite our members to spread the word and show the world that we aspire to rise above and achieve financial freedom for all, through co-operation, commitment and care.

In 1947 credit union literature was distributed to members of the Civil Service Association by the late Daisy Bryan, a social welfare officer. In that same year, the Grenada Public Service Co-operative Credit Union then called the Civil Service Credit Union was established with a membership of 21. At that time, our share capital was just under one thousand dollars.

Sydney L. Cyrus succeeded A.D.W. Johnson as Treasurer and served in that position for a very long time. Mr Cyrus can be regarded as the birth father of the then Civil Service Credit Union. He nurtured it with loving care in those early years. He was committed to collecting funds deposited into the Government Savings Bank and from which withdrawals were made to effect payments to members.

A significant decision which marked the turning point in the efforts of the credit union was the agreement by the Government of Grenada to allow deductions from the salaries of public officers for payment to the credit union. This decision contributed considerably to the growth of the finances of the credit union.

At this time, the need arose for assistance, and Mr Cyrus recruited Sean Alexander, a member of the Accounting Division of the Ministry of Finance, to assist with the co-ordination of the deductions from all Government departments. Mr Alexander's role entailed organising these monthly deductions and the required claim for submission to the Treasury, as well as securing approval and issuing payments.
