The Coconut Industry Board is a statutory body established by the Coconut Industry Control Act of 1945.
The Board is responsible for monitoring and informing the Government of Jamaica on the state of the coconut industry.
The Board administers regulations for the manufacturing, export and import of coconut products and substitutes. It also advises growers on agronomic best practices and provides them with planting materials.
Some of the products offered by the Board at The Coconut Shop include coconut oil, coconut water, gizzadas and coconut confectionaries.
Our research department includes a highly skilled team of researchers who focus on botany/plant breeding, plant pathology and agronomy/plant physiology.
The coconut breeding programme focuses on producing new coconut varieties with good disease resistance and high yield. Over the years, promising hybrids such as the Maypan, Maybraz and Brapan have been developed.
