Acting on its commitment to respond to the needs of its ever-growing customer base EdgeChem, in 1996, entered a technical partnership with Akzo Nobel, the largest paint firm in the world. This allowed for EdgeChem's successful entry into the high-end auto-refinishing market, while Akzo Nobel s products were marketed under its brand Sikkens.
EdgeChem, based on customer feedback, then developed its local brand of automotive refinishers, Automel and Automel Super.

In 1998, EdgeChem expanded its distribution network across the Caribbean exporting to Barbados, Antigua, Trinidad, Belize, St Lucia and Dominica.
