Overview
The Institute of Jamaica (IOJ) was established in 1879 by then Governor, Sir Anthony Musgrave. Over the years, the IOJ has developed into the most significant cultural, artistic and scientific organisation in the country.
The Institute of Jamaica is an agency of the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport and is responsible for the following divisions:
National Museum Jamaica ; Natural History Museum of Jamaica ; Programmes Coordination Division (Simon Bolivar Cultural Centre, Junior Centres-Greater Portmore & East Street) ; National Gallery of Jamaica ; The African Caribbean Institute of Jamaica/ Jamaica Memory Bank ; Liberty Hall: The Legacy of Marcus Garvey ; The Jamaica Music Museum;
