The Ministry of Transport and Mining has under its portfolio, an agency (the JUTC), which is the exclusive provider of public transit services in the country. The agency delivers public transport services seven days a week and in some instances up to 14 hours a day and buses are dispatched daily from several outstations across the island.
They possess the largest driver-pool in the English speaking Caribbean, with over 12-hundred drivers, who are experienced and courteous and so over the years, they have expanded their range of services to include charters, premium/express service, tours and in venue shuttles. The mission of the Transport portfolio of the Ministry is to provide safe and sustainable transport systems for the movement of people and goods.
This is to be undertaken in the three modes of transportation, these being, land, sea and air.
I had two dealings at Exam Depot at Swallowfield. First was doing my driving test. I failed the first time as I was unable to reverse properly. At no time did anyone ask me to pay to pass the test as what is mormally said. I went back with my fee and did my reverse and road test and was successful. No corrupt or illicit activity was noticed.
The second time I went with my friend to get the fitness and the ramp guy. He was very serious as he speaks like an army major. I could hear his voice from 4 car lengths away. I was a little timid and I wasnt the friver of the car. When it was our turn it turned out that man on the ramp was so pleasant. He was clean and well put together. His wife did her job. He said his good morning and gave us strict firm but pleasant instructions. We complied and he said thanks for coming to the Swallowfield Depot, have a good day.
