The Jamaican Association On Intellectual Disabilities (JAID)

Portland

Overview

The Jamaican Association on Intellectual Disabilities (JAID) was established in 1956. Today, it is the oldest and largest interdisciplinary organisation of parents, professionals, and volunteers providing leadership in the field of intellectual disability.

We have a solid track record in the field. We have partnered with the government for various programmes that continue to provide a range of services to improve the quality of life for persons with intellectual disabilities.

We facilitate community integration and acceptance. JAID provides services for persons with intellectual and other developmental disabilities including Down's Syndrome, Angelman Syndrome, Autism, Physical Disabilities, and ADHD.

Our social service department (SSD) aims to provide social interventions that are ameliorative, rehabilitative, and preventative in nature. These interventions are undertaken to reduce the social challenges facing children with intellectual disabilities that would impact their educational and social development. These programmes are part of the island wide 27 Schools of Special Education. We also provide skills training and employment assistance for adults with disabilities. For more information on how we can help you, give us a call.
