Tabernacle Baptist Christian Academy was established by Pastor Alpheus Woodside, Senior Pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church some twenty-five (25) years ago. Pastor Woodside saw a need for a christian school with affordable tuition
a school where a christian education is essential as well as athletics. The Tabernacle Falcons Thanksgiving Basketball Classic was established in 1999 by Mr. Norris Bain, Principal and Senior Boys Basketball Head Coach, Tabernacle Baptist Christian Academy and Mr. Dale Burns, former Athletic Director and Senior Boys Basketball Head Coach at Tennessee High School, Bristol, Tennessee. It was this collaboration that for saw the possibilities and the fruition of the tournament to be one of the most prestigious Basketball tournaments in the Bahamas. The goal for the tournament is to promote sportsmanship and comradery among the young men, as well as to have the athletes viewed by college scouts to give them the opportunity to obtain a tertiary education. The theme of the tournament is Promoting tourism through sports. At our first tournament, Mrs. Cynthia Mother Pratt, former Deputy Prime Minister of the Bahamas, was our first guest speaker of the tournament (pictures attached) and the tournament was held at the YMCA. Teams from Tennessee: Jefferson County High School, Science Hill High School, Seymour High School and Brainered High School. Teams from Georgia: Columbia High School, Southwest DeKalb High School, Tucker High School and Milton High School.
