In 1977, the St Lucia Co-operative Credit Union League Ltd was established to serve credit unions and co-operatives of Saint Lucia.
Today, we solely provide service to credit unions, acting as their secondary body. We coordinate the collective resources of the Credit Union movement and facilitate education and training.
Credit unions are different from for-profit financial institutions and offer their members special advantages. Each credit union member is an equal owner of that credit union and is entitled to one vote at the annual meeting, irrespective of their deposited balance.
In addition, because credit unions are not-for-profit co-operatives, they can usually offer considerably lower loan rates, higher interest on savings and lower fees. Credit unions are led by a Board of Directors elected by the membership at the annual meeting. Board members volunteer and are not compensated.
