The Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta is back for 2023 and will take place from 19-24 April.

This year the regatta is being organised by a new team headed by Paul Deeth. According to the event’s official website, the organisers want the regatta to recapture its original concept which was “like-minded people getting together to share their passion in racing stunning yachts in superb sailing conditions”.

Local and international participants will enjoy three days of exhilarating yacht racing – Old Road race on Friday; Butterfly race on Saturday; and the modified Kenny Coombs Memorial Cannon on Sunday.

Some other activities attendees and spectators can expect include the Single-Handed Race and the Concours d’Elegance on Thursday 19 April, the Parade of Sail into English Harbour on Sunday, and Gig Racing and Cream Teas on Monday 24 April.

Make your way to Nelson’s Dockyard to watch these stunning vessels in action!

Sometime in the 1960s, the captains and crews of classic yachts in Antigua’s English Harbour challenged each other to a race down to Guadeloupe at the end of the charter season.

From this informal race, Antigua Sailing Week was formed in 1967.

But, over the years, classic yachts were slowly outnumbered by faster, modern racing vessels, so captains Uli Pruesse and Kenny Coombs hosted a meeting with other skippers in 1991, and they founded the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta.
