November Events: The Jolly Harbour Yacht Club’s Annual Regatta & Gemonite’s Moods of Pan Festival
by Karen Rollins Nov 7, 2022
Two popular events in Antigua are back on the activities calendar for November after a two-year absence because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Jolly Harbour Yacht Club’s (JHYC) Annual Regatta will be held from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 November 2022.
This keenly awaited sailing event usually features at least 16 boats in different classes, such as racing and cruising, with experienced and amateur crews. There are four races on Saturday and three on Sunday and a prize-giving ceremony on Sunday evening.
Sailing enthusiasts will also enjoy live music and lots of food and drink.
For more information on the regatta visit the JHYC’s official website.
From 26-27 November 2022, the Gemonite Moods of Pan Festival will provide its usual blend of top-class music and entertainment.
Staged since 1999 by the Gemonites Steel Pan Orchestra, this two-day event is “the longest running festival on the Antigua & Barbuda national events calendar apart from Carnival,” according to the official Facebook page.
The musical celebration held at Princess Margaret School brings together some of the best steel pan musicians on the island as well as regional and international artists.
Saturday’s entertainment includes a ‘25-a-side competition’ featuring up to 12 of the region’s top steelpan bands. On Sunday night, known as ‘Another Side of Pan’, local steel bands and regional entertainers will perform live.
The proceeds from the event are “invested into the Gemonites School of Pan, which provides steelpan novices with the opportunity to learn how to play the steel pan via practical and theory lessons.”
