The Gemonites Moods of Pan Festival in Antigua will be celebrating over 20 years of top-class steel pan entertainment when it takes place 2-3 December 2023.
The event, organised by the Gemonites Steel Pan Orchestra since 1999, is “the longest running festival on the Antigua & Barbuda national events calendar apart from Carnival.”
The two-day celebration features performances from the best local steel pan musicians and regional and international artists.
Some of the artists who have taken part in the event over the years include The Mighty Sparrow, Victor ‘Babu’ Samuel, Arturo Tappin, Zara Lake, New Dimensions from Grenada, and Women of Steel from New York.
According to the festival’s Facebook page, some of the proceeds from the event are “invested into the Gemonites School of Pan, which provides steelpan novices with the opportunity to learn how to play the steel pan via practical and theory lessons.”
It adds: “Moods of Pan provides an avenue for cultural development of the steel pan artform. It has been entertaining music lovers and steel pan enthusiasts for a remarkable 20 years and continues to be the only music festival of its kind in the OECS region, where the featured instrument is the steel pan.
“Moods of Pan is truly an event where ‘The Best in Pan Play’.”
