Dickenson Bay, Antigua & Barbuda

Antigua is well-known for having 365 stunning beaches – one for every day of the year – and one of the best on the island is Dickenson Bay.

Located on the north-west coast, Dickenson Bay beach in St Johns is a beautiful stretch of white sand with calm, blue waters and plenty of restaurants, hotels, and bars within a short distance.

Umbrellas and beach chairs are available to rent so you could spend the whole day just relaxing on a sun lounger. However, if you’re feeling more adventurous, there are lots of water sport operators ready to provide excitement with jet skis, Hobie Cats, paddleboards, banana boats and kayaks.

Alternatively, you can also avoid getting wet but still enjoy the sea life, onboard a glass bottom boat. Catamaran cruises are also readily available to take visitors out for snorkelling or scuba diving excursions.

When you’re ready for refreshments, you’ll be spoilt for choice between the many hotels and eateries that line the shore, including Sandals Grande Antigua Resort and Spa, Siboney Beach Club, and Halycon Cove by Rex Resorts.

The floating Kon Tiki Bar and Grill is also a nice spot for drinks and food although it is quite small and can get busy. The bar’s free water taxi can be flagged down from the beach or, if you’re a good swimmer, you can paddle out to it. The drinks are reportedly very strong and only cash is accepted!

Dickenson Bay is only a 15-minute drive north of Antigua’s cruise port, so ferry passengers are often dropped off here to relax and visit St Johns. If you don’t like crowds just take a stroll down the beach until you find a quieter spot.

There’s a reason why this beach is one of the most popular in Antigua – it really has something for everyone!
