The British Royal Family has announced plans to visit several Caribbean countries in March and April this year.

Prince William and his wife Kate will go to Belize, the Bahamas, and Jamaica from 19-26 March 2022.

Prince Edward and his wife Sophie will visit Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, St Lucia, and St Vincent and the Grenadines from 22-28 April 2022.

The Royals Spring Tour is taking place during Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee year and was confirmed in a press release posted on the official Royal Family website.

The statement added that Kensington Palace will issue further details on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s week-long trip shortly. In a Tweet, the couple said they are “excited” about the tour and “can’t wait to meet people in all three countries.”

This will be the first Royal tour William and Kate have undertaken for two years. Within the Commonwealth they have previously visited Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, but they have never officially toured the Caribbean.

Prince Harry visited seven Caribbean countries in two weeks in 2016 in honour of the Queen’s 90th birthday. In November last year, Prince Charles was the guest of honour when Barbados removed the Queen as Head of State and transitioned to a republic.

Queen Elizabeth, 95, handed over responsibility for overseas touring duties to younger members of the UK Royal Family several years ago. She is currently battling COVID-19 and has cancelled several virtual engagements in the past week because of “mild symptoms”.
