Nothing beats running in a tropical location with the Caribbean Sea as the backdrop.

Every year, several islands welcome runners who travel to compete (or run just for fun) in various races over a wide range of distances while also enjoying what each island has to offer.

If you want to challenge yourself while also having fun and exploring the region – we’ve found five running events that you might want to check out.

Antigua’s ‘Run in Paradise’

Antigua’s annual ‘Run in Paradise’ event is held at the end of May and includes half marathon, 10km, and 5km races. Runners from around the Caribbean and the globe compete in this fun weekend which takes participants past some of the best sights in Antigua.

Bermuda Triangle Marathon

In January, Bermuda hosts its annual ‘Bermuda Triangle Marathon’. The event which usually attracts over 1,200 runners, features a mile race, a 10km walk / run, a half marathon, and a full marathon. It is organised by the Bermuda National Athletics Association and the funds raised send young, local athletes to international sporting events such as the Olympics.

Run Barbados

The yearly Run Barbados event in December includes 3km, 5km, 7km, 10km, half marathon and full marathon races. All routes take in some of Barbados’ most historic and scenic sites and every Run Barbados participant receives a branded T-shirt and a uniquely designed ‘Finisher’ medal.

Cayman Islands Marathon

Every year in December, runners from everywhere make their way to the Cayman Islands for its marathon event. This event has been going for more than 21 years and consists of a full marathon, half marathon, four-person relay and a Kids Fun Run!

Nevis Marathon and Running Festival

The Nevis Marathon and Running Festival is held annually in September. This event promises ‘something for everyone’ with 5km, 10km, half marathon and full marathon races which start and finish at Oualie Beach Resort.
