You’ve worked on that summer body, and now that summer is winding down, it is time to focus on keeping it.

While working out is important, eating the right foods also has a crucial role to play.

It is easy to feast or snack on delicious food, especially when you are at home and can make what you love.

However, some of those foods may not be good for our health.

Let us look at six healthy foods that you should be eating this summer.

Leafy green vegetables: Steaming green vegetables could increase their nutritional value. If you love salads, these are fairly easy to make and can be enjoyed with other dishes. Leafy green vegetables contain fibre and several vitamins and minerals. If you are looking for a quick snack, try a mixed green salad with lettuce, spinach, and kale.

Fruits: Melons, cantaloupe, berries, watermelon, apples, and pears are healthy and satisfying. Watermelon is hydrating and has lycopene, a potent antioxidant that may help to protect cells from damage. Strawberries and blueberries are packed with flavonoids, which have antimicrobial and antihistamine properties.

Salmon, sardines, or halibut: Even if you feel like cheating on your diet, there is always a healthier option. Try some grilled salmon instead of a hotdog or burger. Salmon is one of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids, and it is a great source of protein, B vitamins, potassium, and selenium. Other sources of heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids are sardines and halibut. To mix things up, you can make sandwiches, kebabs, or tacos.

Corn: Roasted, boiled, or grilled corn for many of us is a welcomed treat. Corn has antioxidants and is a good source for fibre, vitamins, and minerals. Of note, corn contains lutein, which protects the eyes from harmful blue light and zeaxanthin, which helps with eye health. So, how do you like your corn?

Lemonsoranges, and limes: Beat the heat with a refreshing glass of lemon water or lemonade. Lemon water is an excellent alternative to sugary drinks. Lemons help to support digestive and heart health. It has also been linked to weight control. Oranges are delicious to snack on; they are an excellent source of vitamin C and are great for our immune system. Limes help to improve digestion, reduce inflammation, and heart disease, and fight infection. Other benefits include skin rejuvenation and weight loss support. Let’s not forget that limes are also rich in potassium and magnesium.

Green tea: The summer heat can be unbearable and may cause dehydration. If you get tired of drinking water or infused water, try some green tea. We know that many of us often crave sugary drinks; however, the health benefits of green tea make it a better option. Green tea is rich in antioxidants, nutrients, and minerals, that are great for our health.

We know that there will be days when you decide to opt for take-out, you can still make healthy choices by keeping some of the foods on this list in mind.

Here’s to healthy eating!
