Run in Paradise Half Marathon: Here’s What You Must Have

This year marks the fifth staging of the annual Antigua and Barbuda Run in Paradise Half Marathon. The event which takes place on 26 May 2019, will have participants and spectators from around the world. 

The event is a great for the entire family. Participants can expect friends, visitors and locals to be out in their numbers to cheer them on. 

If this is your first half marathon, this article includes a few tips that you will find handy. 

Seasoned participants already understand just what is required for the event. However, a good reminder can be useful. Below are a few things to keep in mind as you get ready to run in paradise!  

Participants, here’s a quick checklist of things you must have: 

  • Reusable water bottle. 
  • Extra running clothes. 
  • A proper pair of running/walking shoes. 
  • Wireless headphones. 
  • A waist-belt (keys, energy snacks, etc.). 
  • No-slip racing sunglasses. 
  • Sunblock. 
  • Band-aids. 
  • GPS watch and charger. 
  • Safety pins (for your bib). 

 If you are flying in for the event, here’s what to expect: 

  • Half marathon includes a 10K and 5K race. The race treats you to a spectacular view of the country – stunning beaches, rolling hills, and intimate neighbourhoods.  
  • International participants are greeted at the airport. Transportation assistance is provided to the race’s host hotel. 
  • Free transportation is offered to the start line and back from the finish line for racers staying at the race’s host hotel. 
  • All participants receive a medal from the Run in Paradise team upon completion of the race.

Finally, we’d like to leave you with a bit of half marathon history: According to IAAF, the largest half marathon was held in connection with the Oresund Bridge inauguration in 2000. It was the Broloppet between Copenhagen and Malmo. It featured a record 79, 719 finishers.
