Excitement is building on the island ahead of one of the major sailing events in the Caribbean – Antigua Sailing Week (ASW).

The 53rd edition of the event will get underway from 30 April to 6 May, and a packed schedule of racing and post-racing activities is planned.

Hundreds of sailors from over 18 nations, including at least six other Caribbean islands, are in Antigua to participate in the week-long regatta, which had to be held virtually last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Around 100 yachts have signed up to take part in the full five days of racing, and many of them are repeat participants.

Below are some of the main ASW events:

Saturday 30 April: Peters & May Round Antigua Race (standalone event) starts at 8am.

Sunday 1 May: Shirley Heights Lookout breakfast at 8am.

Sunday 1 May: English Harbour Rum Race Day 1 starts at 10am.

Monday 2 May: ASW Race Day 2 starts at 10am.

Tuesday 3 May: Axxess Marine Y2K Race Day 3 starts at 10am.

Wednesday 4 May: Lay Day at Pigeon Point.

Thursday 5 May: Locman Italy Women’s Race Day 4 starts at 10am.

Friday 6 May: Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Board Race Day 6 starts at 10am.
