by Karen Rollins Dec 4, 2023
Christmas is almost here so it’s time to start looking for those special gifts for family and friends.
If you want to find something that is truly unique, handcrafted, and made in the Caribbean, there are several artisans in the region producing exceptional, one-of-a-kind items that will make the ideal present.
Here are some Caribbean small business owners you can support this Christmas.
Montserratian Stephanie Bridge, who is based in Antigua, initially began selling some of her handmade silver and gold-filled pieces in 2019, just before the pandemic but in 2023, she decided to take a leap of faith and turn her skill into a full-time business called ‘Mon Serrai’. Her items are delicate and pretty, made with pearls, turquoise, amethyst, and sea glass.

Caribbean designer Jin Forde has been fascinated with fashion since early childhood. Jin established her brand ‘J.Angelique’ in 2011 but did not create her first collection until 2013 – it was a sell out! Since then, Jin has been offering flowing but functional fashion for “the modern diva” in the Caribbean and overseas, and her outfits have featured in top magazines.

Barbadian Kimelle Jemmott fell in love with the art of making knitted or crocheted toys called amigurumi (pronounced ah-mee-guh-roo-me) about four years ago. When she lost her job during the COVID-19 pandemic it seemed the ideal time to see if her passion could be turned into a successful business and ‘The Island Hook’ was launched. Kimelle’s fun, playful, and handmade animals have proven to be a hit!

If you’re really searching for something different, you could order a custom rug from Barbadian brand ‘Tuft Binds Studio’. We hope this guide helps you find the perfect gift.
