It’s that time of the year again when volunteers unite! Aruba’s biggest volunteer initiative, ARUBA DOET, occurs from 16 to 17 May 2025. Since 2012, the Centro Pa Desaroyo (CEDE) Aruba has organised the annual event in collaboration with Oranje Foods.

ARUBA DOET allows participants to serve the community and have lots of fun while doing so. Volunteers can register for specific tasks individually or with family members or friends. Alternatively, CEDE Aruba officials can offer guidance or assignments for suitable projects.

Last year, the program recorded 3,500 volunteers assisting in 172 projects. This year, the goal is to surpass those numbers, with participants selecting from a cross-section of tasks. Typically, the projects include social activities, cleaning, organising, painting, gardening, decorating, and more. Volunteers donate their time, undertaking tasks such as repainting/cleaning youth centres or schools or engaging in social activities with seniors.

What’s exciting about this programme is that it takes place throughout the Kingdom. As with previous instalments, the Netherlands, Bonaire, Curaçao, St. Eustatius, Saba, and St. Maarten will run their campaigns simultaneously.

This May, it’s time to do as the American biochemist and cancer researcher Helen Marie Dyer once said: “Shape and mould the present into a future of which we can all be proud”. We can do this through volunteerism, a tangible way of voicing our care for others.

Are you interested in putting your voice into action this May? Several fun jobs are on the list waiting for would-be volunteers. Gather your family or crew, then visit the ARUBA DOET website to peruse the job listing and to register.
