The Casibari Jazz Festival will debut in Aruba on 20-21 September 2019 as a smaller replacement for the cancelled Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival.

The organisers of the Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival, which ran for 12 years, announced in May that the event could not take place this year. The event was cancelled after the Aruba Tourism Authority withdrew its support due to “budgetary restraints”.

In a statement posted on Facebook, spokesperson Erik Eman said the organisation, “still intends to produce a smaller version of the event in cooperation with loyal sponsoring partners in order not to disappoint music fans.”

He added: “Music is part of our culture, and the addition of jazz to the repertory of sounds played on the island, makes One Happy Island even happier.”

The new jazz festival will be held at the Casibari Music Café and Grill from 6pm until 1am. It will have two stages, a food court and an art fair.

The organisers said they are still hoping to provide much-needed exposure for local artists who will get the chance to share the stage with international jazz musicians.

The statement added: “Additionally, the smaller platform will serve as stage when Berkeley University visits the island for scouting purposes, eager to meet the Aruban musicians, practicing their talents in front of a live audience.”

Despite the disappointment of the cancelled Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival, it’s hoped that this new event will give jazz enthusiasts on the island some memorable entertainment.
