Living in a studio apartment can be challenging, and people often struggle with ways to efficiently use the space they do have. However, these tips will help you make the most of your studio.

• A studio is just one large room, but it doesn’t have to feel that way. Create the illusion of different living areas to maximise your space. Use folding screens, rugs or even a bookcase to delineate spaces. Even in a tiny apartment, you can define zones for entertaining, sleeping, and working. You can also arrange furniture to divide the space into separate areas.

• Since you are short on space, make your furniture work overtime, such as ottomans that double as storage units, pull out beds or a desk that can function as a dining table.

• You should also look out for pieces that fold away when not in use, such as drop-leaf tables.

• Go for furniture that has a low-profile, meaning these pieces sit close to the floor. This makes the ceilings and windows appear taller, making the room feel larger.

• Don’t let the ceiling go to waste. Hang items such as pot racks or storage netting from the ceiling to create additional storage space.

• An interesting pattern on one wall in your studio can create interest and depth; the space will feel more luxurious and bigger as a result. If you’re renting peel and stick removable wallpaper exists, you can dress up drab walls without destroying your security deposit.

• High ceilings make a space feel more open, but if you’re not lucky enough to have high ceilings, installing curtains as far up the wall as possible will give a similar effect. This draws the eye up, creating an illusion of more space.

• Mirrors are an age-old interior design trick to make small spaces look larger. Mirrors reflect light from doors and windows helping to make a room seem larger, as well as adding dimension to the space.
