Mariah Moyle and her husband Mark have spent the last six years island hopping in the Bahamas to complete construction projects. They are the owners of the construction and real estate business, M&M Management. Mariah and Mark have worked on projects on the private islands of the Aga Khan, Johnny Depp and most recently a development on Norman’s Cay. Today Mariah shares her love for the Bahamas.

In which of the islands do you live?

I’ve been a semi-permanent resident of the Bahamas Out Islands throughout my tenure here. We own a beautiful breezy home overlooking the ocean on the Western side of New Providence.

How long have you live in Bahamas?

I landed in the Bahamas on my sailboat in 2009 and fell in love with the islands, the people and the natural beauty. I returned several times after my sailing trip and in 2011 I met my husband and haven’t looked back.

What is your favourite time of year?

May. The winter Nor’easters have passed and the weather is starting to warm up, but it’s not unbearably hot yet.

Describe your typical day.

On pretty much every job we’ve worked on, we are living on-site. I’ll wake up when my body tells me I’m fully rested, usually 7:30am, then I grab my coffee, throw on some comfy clothes and head out to the office. I joke about my long commute that consists of walking next door. Lunch break is usually spent sitting in the sunshine overlooking the ocean for a few minutes. After our work day we’ll mix a cocktail and take the dogs down to a remote beach for a long walk and a swim.

On what other islands/other places have you lived?

I grew up in Washington State in the USA. After college I bounced around living in beautiful locations such as Lake Tahoe in California and Naples in Florida. The Pacific Northwest will always have a special place in my heart, but I can say without a doubt that home is now with my husband and two dogs here in the Bahamas.

Where in the Bahamas do you like to kick back and relax with family and friends?

The majority of our friends live in Nassau. A fun place to gather on a Friday evening is Spritz in Sandyport. They close the streets to car traffic so you’ll find a mix of families watching the kids ride around on their bikes and scooters and the after-work professional crowd having beer and pizza at the bar.

What is your favourite music?

Anything and everything. Instrumental, pop, classic rock, reggae, indie, country, if it has a fun beat then I’m into it.

What book are you currently reading?

We adopted a rescue Potcake last October who came from a pretty rough background. He’s an absolutely fantastic dog, but we are dealing with some typical behavioural issues. Currently, I am reading Inside of a Dog, What Dogs See, Smell and Know.

 Where is your favourite restaurant?

I cannot chose one, so it is a toss-up between Social House, Olives Meze Grill and Mahogany House, all located in Nassau.

Where would you recommend as a ‘must go’ to a first time visitor to Bahamas?

If you like quiet, remote, natural beauty I suggest Staniel Cay in the Exumas. Stay at Staniel Cay Yacht Club and use it as a jumping off point to explore the islands. Visit the famous swimming pigs at Big Majors, snorkel at Thunderball Grotto and pet the nurse sharks at Compass Cay.

For a livelier scene, check out Harbour Island with its famous three-mile Pink Sands Beach and some of the best restaurants in the country.
