The Athletics Association of Barbados (AAB) is sending 52 competitors to the 52nd Carifta Games in Trinidad and Tobago – the largest team from the island ever to compete at a Games held outside of Barbados.
The highly anticipated junior competition will take place at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain and the National Aquatic Centre from 19-21 April.
At last year’s Games in Grenada Barbados won two silver and three bronze medals with a team of 31 athletes.
In a press release, President of the AAB, Noel Lynch, said the goal was to win at least 40 medals this time with the increased number of athletes selected.
The team will be boosted by the inclusion of four overseas-based athletes in Kadia Rock, Micah Blair, former CARIFTA champion Fynn Armstrong and Maya Rollins. The head coach is Bryan Holder.
CARIFTA brings together the region’s best young athletes in track and field, swimming, and open water events.
