Barbadians are being asked to take to the road on Sunday 6th October at the annual ‘Walk for the Cure’ event which raises funds and awareness for breast cancer.

Now in its 8th year, the charity event usually attracts around 21,000 people for a 5km walk or run.

The event starts at the CIBC Headquarters in Warrens, St Michael at around 3pm and finishes at Massy car park. Marzville, TC, Mikey and others will provide the after walk entertainment.

Writing in the lifestyle pages for the 2020 Barbados phone book, coordinator of the Breast Screening Programme for the Breast Cancer Society, Dr Shirley Jhagroo, praised the impact of the early detection initiative.

She added: “Since the inception of the Breast Screening Programme in Barbados 16 years ago, over 100,000 clients have benefited from its services.

“The Barbados Cancer Society’s Breast Screening Programme ‘One Stop Clinic’ offers all facilities for the early detection of breast cancer. It is staffed by highly qualified breast surgeons, nurses and radiologists using state of the art equipment.

“Our objective is to reduce the number of premature deaths from breast cancer through early detection.”

The Walk for the Cure event raises essential funds for the breast screening programme and is used to upgrade equipment for early detection and reporting and improve awareness campaigns.

If you’d like to take part in the race you can register at the BCS Breast Screening Programme, Henry’s Lane, St. Michael from 9am-3.30pm.

You can also buy ‘Walk for the Cure’ t-shirts from various outlets across the island.

The fee is $25 (BDS) for adults and $20 (BDS) for children under 12.
